What is Entrecomplete?

“I’m really good at what I do. I just don’t know the business side of things.”

Early in my legal career, I noticed I kept hearing some variation of that statement over and over again.

At that point I was only offering legal and accounting services, but people who wanted to start a business needed more.

They wanted the freedom that comes with owning a business. They wanted control over their future. They were tired of working for someone else. They had experience, talent, and motivation.

What they lacked was a roadmap.

In 2017, I started helping people write business plans. Those projects eventually turned into workshops, courses, and coaching. One of those programs became 8 Weeks to Launch, which helped aspiring entrepreneurs take an idea and turn it into a real business.

Over time, all of that work became EntreComplete.

The name comes from something my clients complain about.

Online business gurus often teach the only business they know, pyramid schemes revolving around, “How to start an online business and work 4 hours a week!” Which is just how to use internet marketing to teach the same get-rich-quick scam.

Free offerings from universities are boring and miss everything practical, because the teachers are operating from theory and a textbook someone else wrote.

Government programs provide resources, but they miss practical implementation.

All of these, even combined together, are incomplete.

Starting a business requires understanding yourself, opportunity, customers, marketing, sales, operations, finances, taxes, legal issues, risk, and strategy. Most people are only exposed to pieces of the puzzle.

My goal is to help people see the whole picture.

That perspective comes from living in multiple worlds.

I am a business school professor who teaches entrepreneurship and business fundamentals. I am also on the faculty coaching team for our Entrepreneurship Center.

I am an attorney and accountant who has helped more than 1,600 business owners navigate legal challenges.

I have started businesses myself (some successful, some not).

And I have spent years coaching entrepreneurs who were trying to figure out how to move from “I want to start a business” to “I own a business.”

EntreComplete is the result of all of those experiences.

My goal is simple.

Help aspiring entrepreneurs Start Smart.

Not fast.

Not recklessly.

Not based on whatever trend is popular this week.

Just smart.

Because good businesses are usually built on solid fundamentals, clear thinking, and a willingness to learn skills that most people never get taught.
